Apple Is Working on a Gamepad?

If you’ve opened up any Apple news sites recently, you’ve probably seen the following article, or some form of it: Is Apple working on its own game controller?

Basically, two mystery gamepad devices appeared in a beta of macOS 26.7 and belong to Apple’s hardware identifier. Rumor has it these will be two controllers, probably meant for use with an iPhone and Apple Arcade. One has motion features, one does not. Most likely, these will be Beats branded as well.

I feel like this is the…I don’t know…fourth time I’ve seen rumors about Apple taking baby steps toward real gaming hardware, but this one is believable to me because of the Beats branding, which is a pretty safe move considering Apple seems terrified of being associated with video games (despite that being what people tend to do with computer hardware of any kind).

Something interesting: rumor also has it that the new, unannounced Apple TV might be more powerful than expected. Will these controllers be introduced alongside that, or is something else going on here? Time will tell…

Stuff Coming Out in August to October 2026

Here’s a roundup of everything that caught my eye coming out from August through October.

August

Hahahaha…Nothing!

September

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris — iPhone, iPad

This came out a good while ago in the Xbox One/PS4 era, but the predecessor was a pretty good time on iPad, so this should be cool.

October

Saints Row: The Third Remastered — iPhone, iPad

I had no idea this was on the way. Should be interesting.

Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown DLC — Mac

Dreamlight Valley: Honeyglow Woods DLC — Mac

Stuff Coming Out in June 2026

Here’s a roundup of everything that caught my eye coming out this June.

So, um. Nothing. Yeah, I’ve got nothing. If I missed anything, let me know, but as far as I know, zilch.

Stuff Coming Out in May 2026

Here’s a roundup of everything that caught my eye coming out this May.

Good Pizza, Great Pizza+ — iPhone, iPad May 7th, 2026

I’m actually a big fan of the best of the best casual iPhone games ending up free of transactions in Apple Arcade. Good Pizza, Great Pizza has the charm of stumbling on a fun Flash game back in the day.

Paralives — macOS (Steam) May 25th, 2026

A new competitor to the Sims throne emerges in early access form this month, with macOS support!

Slime Rancher — iPhone, iPad May 26th, 2026

I remember playing this on Xbox Game Pass a few years ago, and it’s definitely got its appeal.

Age of Empires II — macOS (Steam) May 28th, 2026

This one caught me by surprise. Feral has ported AoE Definitive Edition over to macOS! It’s coming to Steam first, and the Mac App Store by the end of the year (supposedly). I’m excited for this one!

New: Troubleshooting Section

I’ve added a Troubleshooting section to the site. This will be a place to document the weird little fixes and workarounds that come up when gaming on Apple devices, so you don’t have to dig through abandoned forums to find them.

Welcome to Gaming in the Garden!

Over the years, we’ve seen Apple’s hardware and custom silicon become powerful, efficient, and capable. Gone are the terrible Intel integrated GPUs of yesterday, making way for M and A series chips with much more capable graphics.

Playing high-end games on Apple devices is no longer a pipe dream, but few releases have demonstrated this fact. I feel like half of the problem is misconceptions and mindshare, so I’ve set up this very niche website to highlight the positives (and negatives) of trying to game in the Apple ecosystem — and maybe if I make enough noise, Apple might start caring more. There is a dearth of reliable information on the topic, so I’ll take a swing at it.

Happy gaming! 🍎
